Well, July has certainly crept up on us pretty fast! Wasn’t it only yesterday that we were all sweating our way through the CrossFit Open workouts?

The month of May saw the 2015 CrossFit Regionals commence across the globe with some of our members making the trip over to Wollongong to see Australia and Asia’s finest battle it out for a spot at the 2015 CrossFit Games.

May was also a whirlwind month at the gym full of fun, PBs and torrential rain.   However, despite the fact that Melbourne winter is well and truly here, we at CrossFit Victoria never fail to be impressed by all our dedicated members who battle their way to the gym come rain or shine! You’re all awesome!

One athlete in particular, however, has made exceptional progress recently and when it came to selecting May’s Athlete of the Month… this lady was an easy choice.

CrossFit Victoria’s May Athlete of the month for 2015 is… MASHA MIRONOVA! Congratulations, Masha!

Masha has been a fantastic part of the CrossFit Victoria family and has gone from strength to strength in the past months. Those who train with her will know her for her awesome supportive spirit, friendly nature and wicked back squat!

However there’s a small chance that, unless you’re an early bird, you may not have met the lovely Masha. She’s a regular smiling face at the 6am morning classes and smashing PB’s before the rest of us (OK, maybe just me…) have set foot outside of the duvet.

She works incredibly hard, and she is extremely driven to constantly improving her mobility and lifting technique. Masha has an extremely humble attitude (you will never hear her boasting about her achievements!) and we think she embodies the CrossFit Victoria community spirit!

Her dedication and infectious spirit have not gone unnoticed by the coaches at CrossFit Victoria.

Head Coach Amelia Thomsett is incredibly proud of Masha’s progress: “Since joining CrossFit Victoria, Masha has worked really hard on her mobility and, as a result, she has smashed out so many amazing PBs!

“She sets a great example of what can be achieved with a positive attitude and hard work. Masha is definitely one keen bean as one of our most consistent 6am members – even during the colder months!”

Masha advanced to Level 3 at the most recent grading day. A challenge that saw her successfully complete a number of lifts and exercises including a .5 body-weight snatch, a .75 body-weight clean and jerk and a sub 12 minute RX’d Helen.

Coach George Iacono had a glowing review of Masha’s achievements: “Masha has been a consistent member of the AM crew and is always pushing herself towards improvement.

“Over time, I’ve seen her mobility, performance and strength develop – a testament to the hard work she puts in at the gym.  She has a great attitude and always manages to smile and laugh, even in the middle of a tough WOD!

“Masha is not afraid of some friendly competition and she continually challenges herself and others to constant betterment.”

As usual, Masha will have the opportunity to create her own WOD with Head Coach Amelia Thomsett, that will include some of her favourite movements as well as movements that she’s not all that fond of. We’re looking forward to seeing what she comes up with and even more excited to complete the WOD alongside her!

Congratulations, Masha. CrossFit Victoria is proud to have you as a member. Keep up the great work!
