What is your favorite component of CrossFit?

Definitely the community! There’s no-one at Crossfit Victoria I wouldn’t call a great friend. I have to say though, I also love that the vast majority of our movements are functional in that they ‘serve a purpose’ giving us general preparedness for just about anything!

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

Besides helping people get their first muscle up, I love watching everyone’s transformations from Elements to the main classes. It’s amazing to see an individual’s ability to learn, stretch, grow, and transform into a powerhouse, especially when they didn’t know they had it in them! It’s an absolute privilege to coach people to grow stronger, feel better, eat better and be awesome! I reckon it’s just grouse!

 

What are your own goals within the sport?

My goal is to provide the members of Crossfit Victoria with quality, results focussed coaching and share my gymnastics experience to get them to that next level in their journey to supreme awesomeness.

 

Do you have a favorite CrossFit moment that you’d like to share, or a story that you think would inspire others? 

It would have to be my first day at Crossfit Victoria. I hadn’t done any sport or fitness activities for years before joining, so I was terribly unfit with a substantial beer gut busting my pants! I booked into the personal training sessions for a month as the Elements class was full. As with all beginners to our awesome facility, I was made to complete the Petranek WOD (500m row, 40 squats, 30 sit-ups, 20 push-ups, and 10 pull-ups for time). Being an ex-gymnast, I was thinking to myself, ‘I got this!’ After finishing in 8 minutes and 54 seconds, lying flat on my face and wondering how I could possibly still be alive, the CrossFit coach kneeled down, put his hand out, and said, “welcome to CrossFit.” He then walked away like Bruce Willis leaving a bomb site. I went home thinking, ‘what have I just signed up for?’ No more than an hour later, I was just itching to come back and do it again. Four months later, I was given the opportunity to do the Petranek WOD again and clocked in at 4:05. It’s amazing how quickly CrossFit can make a change in your fitness and lifestyle!
