My plan was to train with Adam for three months. I wanted to learn how to develop a gym routine that would address the strain on my body caused by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, increase my fitness and become stronger.

My initial concern was that after I'd learned a few techniques the sessions would become less mentally stimulating and simply repetitive hard work. After the first few lessons, a few things became apparent and my training outlook broadened immediately.

I realised that I hadn't been pushing myself hard enough. I didn't stretch properly after a training session. I hadn't utilised the machines to the extent I could have. I recognised just how many aspects of fitness there were to address – from bursts of power to working until exhaustion.

The program Adam has designed for me effectively targets muscles used during BJJ training and is well balanced with the cardio training necessary to sustain me through long grappling bouts. Furthermore, his explanation of each component of the program has given me a better idea of how posture, form, muscle movement and future training can improve my technique.

Importantly, the most noticeable change has been my mental approach to BJJ; my concentration and tenacity have improved to the extent that when grappling with an opponent twice my weight I don't immediately give up, but wait for an opening or try another tactic.

It's now been more than a year since I first started. After all this time Adam continues to create an interesting session and provides the assistance I need to attain my personal goals.

I have found the Six Week Fitness Intensive to be a fantastic experience overall. I find it extremely hard to motivate myself to get up and run or similar in the mornings but, having made the commitment to attend the intensive, it's been quite easy to get there! We have a great group of people all of whom are really supportive. The environment is friendly and non-competitive.

Having trained with Adam for some time, I knew that the Intensive would be different to the dozens of boot camps I see making their way around the "Tan" each day. Rather than being barked at, we are encouraged and all exercises are thoroughly explained. We understand the logic behind what we're doing and learn new exercises every session. We're often sent follow-up articles on things we've learned and both Peter and Adam are happy to answer questions before, during and after each session.

I am doing 200% more exercise than I otherwise would and am pushing myself much harder as part of a group than I would just heading out solo or even with a friend. I am actively encouraging a number of friends and my partner to come to the next intensive. The added bonus is that I make it to work by 7:30 Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings!

I was apprehensive before starting to train with CrossFit Victoria. The idea of doing something new and scary really made it a huge step. And I was afraid I was going to have to do running all the time! I'm now getting a killer workout (you can tell by my convincing impression of a beetroot at the end of each session) and at the end I think "I can't believe I actually did that".

I'd definitely recommend CrossFit Victoria; great trainers, interesting workouts, I feel very much as if I'm in safe hands and that the workouts are holistic and part of a bigger picture rather than just a bunch of exercises chucked together to make up 45 minutes. Originally I was only going to do 6 weeks of PT to kick start me into exercising again but now I'm not sure how I will be able to give it up!

I was a little unsure about training in the group intensive after having trained as a personal training client. Upon Adam's recommendation I joined the group and now I look forward to turning up to each session; that was not always the case with one-on-one training.

It's better than going to a gym. Training with a group of people makes you push a bit harder.

My trainer Steve works me like a dog but the training sessions are enjoyable and are specific to my individual needs. I always find after a training session I feel energized and revitalised.
