Before you get started, take a moment to learn what CrossFit is all about.
Later in this article, we'll explain how to start training at CrossFit Victoria.

What is CrossFit?

The CrossFit training program is a revolution in modern fitness. It has changed the way we think about fitness training and has shown how to achieve lasting health and fitness through evidence-based practices. The program has been developed over decades of practice ‘at the coal-front’ and is not clinical but empirical in its design and nature. The CrossFit HQ website supplies the following explanation:

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

Thousands of athletes worldwide have followed our workouts posted daily on this site and distinguished themselves in combat, the streets, the ring, stadiums, gyms and homes.

Why CrossFit?

In three words: because it works. CrossFit is not a fad, it’s not something that will come and go. The concepts are proven, they’ve been around for years it’s just now that they’ve been thrust together and someone questioned: “now what if we did this again, faster?”

CrossFit develops fitness through the most complete range of motion with movements that are suitable to people of all walks of life. It is not specialised, it is in fact the complete opposite – generalised.

CrossFit is not for everyone but it will produce unparalleled results for those that are prepared to push their limits, to challenge themselves and their preconceived ideas of fitness. It’s a training protocol for those that like the idea of greater reward for greater effort.

What does that all mean?

CrossFit is designed to elicit the most extensive physical and mental adaptations possible. The program promotes correct posture and movement, it helps rehabilitate injury, it develops broad and inclusive fitness and it makes you look and feel good.

We use functional movements in constantly varied combinations and perform these at high intensity (yet always safely).

"The magic is in the movement, the art is in the programming, the science is in the explanation, and the fun is in the community." – Coach Greg Glassman

Who can CrossFit?

Everyone can do CrossFit. We scale the workouts to suit each individual. Grandmothers, commandos, office workers and high school students all do the same movements with differing load and intensity. We have coached older athletes to reclaim their independence, soldiers to be physical fitter (thus safer) on deployment, fighters to be better conditioned than ever before. CrossFit can benefit you. It’s not easy but the rewards are significant.
