Warmdown…. this has been missing sometimes. Maybe because classes are finishing just on time and this has been neglected. Every class i’ve had with Alex he has done a warm down with some interesting stretches. Others have been less religous in their approach. However nearly everytime we get told to make sure you stretch when you go home. But thats something I do anyway, but i’m not sure about the newbies.
You all suck, thats why I keep coming back for more. And lucky my constructive critisism gets rewarded… Adam, ask what your gym did for a warmdown at the 6PM class. It was bloody awesome, easily the best thing i’ve done in months. :D
IMHO, the day you stop wanting to learn is the day you die.
Amen! I just hope my mind can stay focussed long enough for me to absorb everything I throw at it. It’s been doing a good job up until now. Going Zone has helped with my concentration so I’m able to absorb more of the texts i’ve been reading…. I also love to chat, and ask questions and get as much out of people as I can. Hopefully I can repay that…..
That last sentence holds a cryptic clue to the question you asked me in this thread, Adam. ;-)
hi adam,
i’m cindy new here i went to class today i think about squat technique, i just putting my thoughts out here on it, yes i think it was a good class but i think that the guy who somewhat “could not” do it.. i think have muscle tightness in their hamstrings generally, thus causing less of a lumbar curve and also lower back pain, in some sense i felt sorry for the guys who couldn’t do a proper squat and being told to “fight for it” do you not think recommending something like stretching and massage would do them a better service instead of practicing without stretching? just a thoguht..
Stretching and massage can assist but are less likely to be the root of the problem than misunderstanding the movement or just not executing it correctly. Trying to actually get the movement right and hold the position is key. We do use developmental movements, stretches and so forth throughout the coaching progression. One class will generally not be enough to fix everyone’s squat and often tougher cases are sorted out outside classes. Please don’t think that we just keep yelling “FIGHT FOR IT”, there’s much more to it that that. :o)
For example I have found on alot of occassions that we will be doing a warm up involving push ups and pull ups then the WOD will involve the same and as such it can affect your performance on the WOD.
Maybe its just cause i suck at pull ups but 30 extra ontop of the WOD requirements gets a little intense.
What have you noticed lately in class that need attention from us coaches?
I’ll tell you a few things that I am keen to improve across the board.
1. attention to movement (understanding of biomechanics)
2. relentless correction of poor and lazy technique
3. scaling when athletes do not maintain adequate form
4. better coaching cues
5. more clear and concise teaching of movements
